Why
I Pledge
to Support.

I signed in as supporter because I want to make people more aware of Alzheimer and the consequences it has on the caregivers and relatives.

I’ll give a short explanation why.

My family has had many struggles because of Alzheimer.
My mother had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. At age of 13 here father died because of Alzheimer.
She was always afraid of getting it too.

When she got older, she married and gave birth to my sister, me and my 2 little brothers.
Here 2 sisters and 1 of her brothers where diagnosed with Alzheimer to, and in het early 30 she also was diagnosed with Alzheimer. From a calm loving person she turned into a aggressive one. That’s why at age of 37 she had to live in a closed facility for elderly people.

At age of 42 my mother died because of Alzheimer’s.

I have been tested on Alzheimer, but luckily for me I don’t have the alzheimer type that runes in my family.
My sister and brothers didn’t let themselves tested, they’re afraid that it may be tested positive.
I’m constantly aware if I see changes that might come from Alzheimer.

That’s why I’m trying to make a change by telling my story and hopefully inspire people.

I advocate for persons with dementia and their caregivers because I believe that everyone deserves to know that they are not alone in this journey.

I think the very least we can do as caregivers who have gone through this experience is to educate the people around us.

To help people understand that dementia is not as frightening as it sounds. To let them know that they can help by having the right information.
