Thank you for being part of our year in 2018
Here are key highlights from our work and relationships built this year!
Step Up, Speak Out! Forums

Step Up, Speak Out! is a forum for caregivers and experts to come together to share their journey and gain insights on how to care better for themselves and their loved ones with dementia. The aim of the forum is to build knowledge, understanding, and support around the topic so that caregivers will feel empowered to step out to look for help.

This year we focused on the topics of working caregivers and women and dementia. We’d like to say thank you to our collaborators and speakers for being involved in our forums in 2018.

Outreach Engagements
Reaching out to the Young – AMKFSC x SIM

A wonderful time reaching out to students at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) with AMKFSC. The session discussed the journey of a person with dementia, the dynamic nature of caregiving, the topic of younger caregivers who may be caring for a parent or grandparent, the changing needs of family caregivers, and the increasing complexity and scope of caregiver responsibilities.

Purposeful Aging, Meaningful Endings Symposium

Titled “Business and Innovation for the End of Life”, the seminar was held as part of a symposium “Purposeful Aging // Meaningful Endings: Art, Science and Innovation” at Yale-NUS College. The event was organised by Yale-NUS together with Modern Aging Singapore and Singapore Hospice Council. More about the event here.

Our Better World x Outreach

Thank you Our Better World for the opportunity to share our work with employees at #Singapore, and ways in which we can better support caregivers to loved ones with #dementia! Glad to be doing this alongside Runninghour and Cycling Without Age Singapore.

“The Father” Post-Show Dialogues – Pangdemonium

Pangdemonium’s staging of The Father highlights the journey a family goes through when caring for a loved one with dementia. The play was followed by post-show dialogues with the cast, experts and caregivers, as they share their experience and discuss the themes. Click here to hear what caregivers thought of the play.

Dementia Simulation Event @ Ng Teng Fong Hospital

In collaboration with Camp Hiro, a social enterprise that seeks to empower youths in taking ownership and action in addressing real community needs, we led a dementia simulation event at Ng Teng Fong Hospital on World Alzheimer’s Day. This event was open to all hospital staff and volunteers.

World Alzheimer’s Month 2018 Conference

“Every 3 seconds, someone is diagnosed with dementia globally.” With this sobering statistic in mind,  the Alzheimer’s Disease Association organised a conference on 21 and 22 September 2018, to Educate, Enable and Empower, with an urgency to build Inclusive and Accessible Communities. It was an enriching conference and we’re glad to have been part of the discussion on “Building Accessible and Inclusive Communities”.

The 4-Week Caregiver MBSR Programme - MindFi

The 4-week Caregiver Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Programme was led by MindFi and offered to all Project We Forgot community members.

Caring for a loved one with dementia can be very rewarding, but it often also involves many stressors. The programme was aimed at improving mental wellbeing at work, care, and life. It is a form of stress relief therapy administered by psychologists and more recently implemented in corporate training programmes for mental wellness.

Designathon We Remember! 2018

Designathon We Remember 2018 aimed at empowering the community to come together to design for dementia!

The event brought together designers, developers, entrepreneurs, students, caregivers, healthcare workers and social service providers to collaborate and identify design solutions for persons with dementia and their caregivers in Singapore.

Designing for Dementia

Various activities were held across the month of September and October 2018, featuring dementia from different perspectives, and exploring how we can design for dementia. 10 teams were shortlisted to join the 3-day makeathon event to design their own products for persons with dementia, speak to industry experts and mentors, and work with caregivers and dementia professionals.
