Inspired by her family’s early intervention journey, Christel creates tools for communities to better engage their loved ones. Her latest game launch includes Huahee Colozzle, a colouring game that can transform your seniors’ coloured work into puzzles. The inspiration for this game came from her grandmother who found joy in colouring a few years ago and has not stopped since.

Christel’s grandmother goes through stacks and stacks of colouring books. She then wondered if there was a way to make better use of her grandma’s colouring work.

Thus, the idea of a colouring game that can be transformed into puzzles was born.

Early Intervention at Home

Christel’s grandma showed early warning signs of dementia two years ago. Her family then started on a journey of early intervention. Her mother started researching food, activities and exercises to slow down the progression of dementia.

“We became a lot more conscious of our interactions with her. My mother was very particular about her diet and exercise. Through implementing a change in her lifestyle, we saw a positive difference in her memory, moods and disposition,” said Christel.

Before embarking on this journey, Christel’s grandma showed signs of short term memory loss and negative changes in her moods and disposition.

“I feel that if my family had not made a conscious and committed effort to intervene in my grandma’s condition early, she would probably be in a much different stage right now,” added Christel.

Christel’s grandma is not diagnosed with dementia. Her family is managing the situation at home and has seen significant improvements in her grandma.

In many homes, dementia is only detected much later, or when the condition aggravates. If we are able to watch our loved ones for signs of dementia or other health conditions, I believe that we will be much better equipped to manage it through lifestyle changes.

Spreading the message of early intervention

Christel hopes to continue encouraging other families to intervene early in their loved ones’ condition. She feels that in many homes, dementia is only detected much later, or when the condition aggravates.

“If we are able to watch our loved ones for signs of dementia or other health conditions, I believe that we will be much better equipped to manage it through lifestyle changes,” said Christel.

Christel creates card games as a tool to engage loved ones as part of early intervention. She created her first card game last year and launched it as an Indiegogo campaign.

This game was inspired by Play Huahee Founder, Christel Goh’s interactions with her grandmother. Her grandmother really enjoys colouring.

Christel introduced colouring as an activity to her grandma a few years ago. Ever since then, she has not stopped colouring. Colouring is a great therapy for seniors and helps them to exercise hand eye coordination.
